i didnt know about the deadline, so i guess this isnt meant for the yesterweb halloween thing anymore, but i still have treat

this one has a story, a classic (not really) campfire story...

its the story..of... when i tried... TO GET ANOTHER OS ON MY COMPUTER!!

it all started on the 24th, i loved windows 7, but there was things i couldnt do on it, things i really liked..

those things that would have been perfectly usable, if i had a unix-like operating system..

its been dream, for 8 months, to get a thinkpad with and os that isnt microshaft winblows

*sigh*... but nothing about computers is easy for me

first, getting the machine, which after 8 months, i decided on the thinkpad x60

but uhh, there was a problem, im not an adult with a job yet, so i cant get whatever i want

so i asked my aunt about it, she said no, but not just a simple "no, its too old", in fact she didnt even understand

why i wanted one... ill spare you the details of what happend that night, if i dont i might ruin my aunts name, and i

dont want that, because she is very nice in real life

well after that, i decided on an old acer aspire 1, which i got for free because my family had one (woohoo!)

next, the new os... took a long long time to decide

no really, the entire thing took the entire 8 months

i went from Pop_OS!, to BSD, to haiku, and even getting a 68k with apollo os

in the end, i found tribblix to be the best option

then that day finally came, i think it was october 19th or 20th 2022

it was the day, that i finally got the computer, a pretty fast small laptop

then i was having fun with windows 7

four days later, i had finally begun doing what i really wanted to do with my laptop

to create a tribblix and win7 dualboot! (win7 was being used by my brother, and for school)

unfortuanetly, i had to erase windows 7, i just got confused looking at fdisk

alright, how did that turn out?

well, it didnt work, it wasnt starting x

so i reinstalled it, took 8 hour sleep, and then same problem

instead of configuring x, i gave up and went with BSD

that was even worse

freebsd wouldnt install, openbsd also wouldnt install, NETBSD DIDNT EVEN BOOT!

looking back, i probably shouldve seen a video about installing it

and then, i went with linux, specifically a distrobution called Q4OS (i reaaaly liked it!)

it installed

you might think that its over, and i had no more problems from then on, and i could have fun with linux

but you are wrong

I WENT THROUGH ALMOST AN ENTIRE 24 HOURS (ok, i didnt spend almost a whole day, but if you add the hours,

its almost 24)

ALMOST 24 HOURS OF JUST GETTING TO WHERE I WANT THE SYSTEM TO BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

so, let me tell you how that was

first, networking

it took me 6 hours just for networking, yes you saw that right, 6 FRICKIN HOURS JUST FOR NETWORKINGGGG!

first i tried reinstalling, then i kept on looking at the forums, and then finally, i used the command nmtui

second, getting need for madness (its a very good game), WHICH TOOK 12 HOURSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

all of this was because of one simple problem, openjdk-7 is not in the debian repositories

i think i tried installing jdk-8, but that didnt work

after searching the repositories, trying to install from openjdk (maybe im just an idiot who didnt see the file someho

w), and java.com not working, i tried 3rd party sites

i went searching and searching, on forums, on other sites, and installing and uninstalling firefox 4 times

wait, i probably shouldve tried java.com on firefox

i even installed a tool called sdkman from sdkman.io, JUST FOR ONE GAME!

i even tried installing PKGSRC! FOR JAVA! FOR ONE GAME!

*long sigh*.... i shouldve just configured x, tribblix HAS JDK-8 AS AN OVERRRLAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

maybe in november, i should try it again

anyway, i finally installed it from a site called openlogic

boy, you could not imagine how happy i was when my favourite game was finally working

but then, something else? SOMETHING ELSE?!? WHAT GODDAMNN PROBLEM WE HAVE NOW?!

the desktop environment ive been using (TDE), broke, all my desktop icons dissapeard and the taskbar stopped working

i dropped into a tty, then installed fvwm, uninstalled that, openbox, nope, TWM, NOOOPE! DIDNT WORK! NONE WORKED!

i installed openbox again, then tried configuring x, and then i saw the select session thing that i somehow didnt see

after using openbox, THE GAME FINALLY WORKED!

i took a screenshot of it [sadly i cant show it when it was first running on tde :( ]

my problems have been fixed after 20 hours, until after 2 days where the trackpad stopped

also my aunt took the mouse upstairs and she dosent know where it is now

*sigh* now im stuck on a tty, because everytime i login with x, THE GODDAMN BROKEN TDE LOADS
